Mentorship
YPE NYC’s mentorship program is designed for undergraduate students interested in a clean energy career. The program runs from September 2023 to May 2024. Applications for mentees are now open! Applications for mentors, and career specialists have closed.
Why a Mentorship Program?
As we continue to face intensifying impacts of climate change, achieving an equitable and rapid clean energy transition is more critical than ever. This effort requires a new generation of clean energy professionals and mentorship will play a key role in building the diverse and inclusive workforce that will accelerate this transition.
Mentorship enhances robust community engagement, providing mentors with fulfilling experiences and mentees with new opportunities for social and economic gain, personal growth, and professional development. YPE NYC's Mentorship Program will help advance a stronger NYC by fostering relationships, welcoming new perspectives, and empowering the next generation of energy leaders.
We’re launching our 2023 program
Last year, YPE NYC launched our second annual Mentorship Program with twelve mentor-mentee pairs. After a successful second year, we’re thrilled to bring the program back and encourage you to consider applying!
Our 2023 cohort will explore topics like energy policy, clean energy justice, technology and the built environment, data modeling for clean energy, and much more. Over the course of nine months, mentees will meet with their mentors on a monthly basis (at minimum!) to explore opportunities in the clean energy field, receive hands-on professional development, and get help applying to jobs, summer internships, and graduate programs! The program will conclude with final capstone presentations from our mentee cohort - a great chance to dive into a topic of interest, work with fellow mentees, and practice your presentation skills.
On top of it all, mentees will have access to the entire group of mentors as well as YPE NYC Career Specialists. We’re also planning several in-person meetups to have some fun and help participants get to know the rest of the cohort.

If you’re currently an undergraduate student in the NYC-area, and you’re interested in learning about career opportunities in the clean energy industry, you may be eligible to apply to be a Mentee! Applications are now open - learn more here.
If you’re a young energy professional in or from the NYC-area with at least three years of experience (this may include graduate studies), you may be eligible to apply to be a Mentor or Career Specialist! Applications for the 2023 cohort are now closed - but you can learn more for next year’s cohort here.
